Beginner Full-Body Gym Routine + Starter Supplement Stack (Canada 2026)
What is the best gym routine for a beginner in Canada in 2026? A 3-day full-body routine built around a handful of compound lifts — squat, hinge, push, pull — is the most efficient starting point. Train three non-consecutive days a week, add a little weight or one rep when a session feels easy, and support it with three supplement basics: creatine, protein, and electrolytes. A complete starter stack plus the accessories you actually need lands under about $130.

This guide is educational fitness content, not medical advice. Exercise carries risk of injury — start with weights you can control, use good form, and consult a qualified fitness or healthcare professional before starting a new program, especially if you are new to training, pregnant, or managing a health condition. Dietary supplements are for adults; consult your healthcare provider before use. Not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.
The 3-day full-body routine (Workout A / B)
Alternate Workout A and Workout B across three training days each week (for example Monday / Wednesday / Friday), so week one is A-B-A and week two is B-A-B. Rest at least one day between sessions. Warm up for 5–10 minutes first: light cardio, then two light sets of your first exercise. Leave 1–2 reps "in the tank" on every set while you learn the movements.
| Workout A | Sets × reps | Workout B | Sets × reps |
|---|---|---|---|
| Goblet or back squat | 3 × 8–10 | Romanian deadlift or hip hinge | 3 × 8–10 |
| Dumbbell or barbell bench press | 3 × 8–10 | Seated or standing shoulder press | 3 × 8–10 |
| Seated cable row | 3 × 10–12 | Lat pulldown or assisted pull-up | 3 × 8–10 |
| Dumbbell lunge | 2 × 10 / leg | Leg press or split squat | 3 × 10 |
| Plank | 3 × 30–45 s | Dead bug or cable crunch | 3 × 12 |
The starter supplement stack
You do not need a cupboard full of tubs to start. Three basics cover 90% of the benefit for a new lifter.
1) Creatine monohydrate — the one everyone should take
Five grams a day, every day, timing doesn't matter. Creatine monohydrate is the most-researched sports-nutrition ingredient there is, and it's inexpensive. PVL 100% Pure Creatine Monohydrate (300 g) is our best-value pick; PEScience TruCreatine+ (Creapure®) is the premium micronized option if you want the branded Creapure® source.
PVL 100% Pure Creatine Monohydrate — Micronized, Pharmaceutical-Grade, Unflavoured (300g / 60 Servings)
PEScience TruCreatine+ Creapure® Micronized Creatine Monohydrate Powder (150g - 30 Servings)
2) Protein powder — hit your daily target
Aim for roughly 1.6–2.2 g of protein per kg of bodyweight daily; a shake makes that easy on training days. New to protein? Start with a PEScience Select trial size (5 servings) to find a flavour you love, then move to a full tub like the Canadian-made PVL CAN-WHEY (1.6 lb).
PEScience Select Whey Protein Powder TRIAL SIZE (5 servings)
PVL CAN-WHEY 100% Canadian Clean Whey Protein Blend (1.6lb)
North Coast Naturals ISO Protein 100 (680g)
3) Electrolytes — train hydrated
Sipping electrolytes during longer sessions helps you stay hydrated. Nuun Sport tablets are the easy, low-sugar starting point.
Nuun Sport Electrolyte Drink Tablets (10 servings)
Optional: a light pre-workout
If you train early or need a nudge, an optional pre-workout helps. Mammoth Pump (30 servings) is a balanced, well-priced pick. Already drink coffee? You can skip it.
Mammoth Pump Pre-Workout (30 servings)
Gym accessories that make the routine easier
A few inexpensive tools cover almost everything a beginner needs on the floor.
Velomix Shaker Bottle with Ball (1 bottle-28 oz)
FITZOOM Workout Gloves for Men & Women — 3D Padded, Breathable Grip (1 pair)
Noble Strength Lifting Wrist Straps — 24" Padded Anti-Slip (1 Pair)
TNF Bands Adjustable Resistance Band (1 band)
What a beginner day looks like
