Updated May 2026.
Carnivore-diet eating is animal-only — meat, eggs, fish, and dairy (debated). It's stricter than keto and harder to find packaged options for. Most "protein snacks" include plant fillers, sweeteners, or oils that violate strict carnivore.

Strict vs lax carnivore — where things fit
- Strict carnivore: meat + eggs + animal fat only. Even whey is questionable (it's processed). Beef protein isolate is closest match.
- "Animal-based" eating (Saladino-style): meat + eggs + dairy + fruit + honey. Whey, casein, and bovine collagen all fit.
- Ketovore: carnivore + select keto vegetables. Most protein powders fit.
