How do you cook dry konjac rice? Rinse it, simmer or microwave it in water for 3–4 minutes, then dry-pan it for 2 minutes to fluff it up. Unlike wet shirataki, Diva Rice is a shelf-stable dry bag — no liquid to drain, far less odour, and it soaks up whatever sauce you cook it in.

Dry konjac rice vs. wet shirataki — what's the difference?

Most "miracle rice" you've seen at the grocery store is wet shirataki: it comes packed in liquid, needs draining and a thorough rinse, and often has a faint fishy smell you have to cook off. Diva Rice is different — it's a dry, shelf-stable konjac rice. You rehydrate it yourself, so there's no slimy packing liquid, almost no odour, and it stores in the pantry instead of the fridge.

Both are made from glucomannan, a soluble fibre from the konjac plant. That's why konjac rice is naturally very low in calories and digestible carbohydrate and high in fibre — a popular swap for people eating keto, low-carb, or just watching their portions. (It's a food, not a supplement: introduce fibre-rich foods gradually and drink plenty of water.)

The 4-minute method (stovetop)

  1. Rinse. Tip the dry rice into a sieve and rinse under cool water for a few seconds.
  2. Hydrate. Add to a pot of boiling water (or broth for more flavour) and simmer 3–4 minutes until tender.
  3. Drain. Pour through the sieve again and shake off the excess water.
  4. Dry-pan (the key step). Tip the drained rice into a hot dry non-stick pan and toss for 1–2 minutes. This drives off surface moisture so it's fluffy instead of wet — this single step is what makes it taste like real rice.
  5. Season & serve. Add it straight to a stir-fry, curry, burrito bowl, or fried "rice." It carries sauce beautifully because it starts neutral.

Microwave method (90 seconds)

In a hurry? Add the rinsed rice to a microwave-safe bowl with a splash of water, cover, and microwave 60–90 seconds. Drain, then give it 1 minute in a dry hot pan if you can — you'll still get a better texture.

3 easy ways to use it

  • Fried "rice": dry-pan it, push to the side, scramble an egg, add frozen veg + a little soy or coconut aminos.
  • Burrito / poke bowl base: swap it 1:1 for white rice to cut the carbs in a bowl.
  • Curry or stir-fry soak-up: it absorbs sauce, so it shines under a saucy butter chicken or teriyaki.

Common questions

Does dry konjac rice smell? Far less than wet shirataki. Because there's no packing liquid, the rinse-and-dry-pan steps remove almost any aroma.

Is it keto and gluten-free? Konjac rice is naturally gluten-free, vegan, and very low in digestible carbohydrate, which is why it's popular on keto and low-carb plans. Always check the pack for exact values.

Why dry instead of the wet kind? Pantry storage, less odour, no draining of packing liquid, and it soaks up sauce better once you dry-pan it.
